Entomological surveillance to identify the vector and IEC/BCC activities is set in motion by the health department, he added.

ITANAGAR, Oct 19: Extinguishment or abolition of the posts of Medical Officers (Allopathic, Dental & AYUSH) under NRHM was purely a State Cabinet decision which are regularized and inducted into the State Health Service, claimed Mission Director of NRHM while clarifying a news item published in this daily recently.
“This was intended to avoid duplication in the aggregate number of posts in the State besides providing space for other developmental activities in the NRHM budget and action plan,” the Mission Director said in a release.
“The NRHM policy adopted by the Govt. also envisages that over the years of its implementation, there should be progressive increase in the number of regular doctors under the State Govt. with proportionate decrease in their number under NRHM.”

for Medical Officers, was prepared and submitted months before the doctors were regularized
into the State Health Service, the release informed. “In other words, the budget
was estimated for the doctors during their incumbency under NRHM. After their regularization,

SIT to probe missing IPS officer's case
Itanagar, Oct 19: The Arunachal Pradesh government on Friday handed over the case of missing IPS officer MS Chauhan to a Special Investigation Team (SIT) of the state police, official sources said. Chauhan, who is the SP of the Special Investigation Cell of the state police, went missing mysteriously from Tippi on Tuesday when he was going to Tawang from Itanagar with inspector Mohan Kaye and constable Vikram Singh.
He had handed over one of his cell phones to his driver while leaving the vehicle at Tippi market and asked them to wait for him at a nearby river where he was supposed to join them for lunch. IGP (Crime) Arvind Deep on Thursday informed that the police had definite clues on Chauhan’s whereabouts and the case would be cracked soon.

NEDFi workshop on micro finance
ITANAGAR, Oct 19: The North Eastern Development Finance Corporation Ltd. (NEDFi) Itanagar branch organized a 2 days workshop cum training programme on “Micro Finance For Beginners” at SIRD Conference Hall, Itanagar from October 18 – 19.
A total of 32 numbers of participants from 20 different local NGO’s with their reach in almost all the districts of the state attended the programme.
NEDFi has been working towards developing and supporting NGOs in providing microfinance services to the “needy” for taking up income generating activity. This programme was organized with an aim to build up the capacity of the local NGOs in the field of microfinance for promoting the microfinance movement in Arunachal Pradesh.
The resource person for this program Prabin Kr. Singh, Manager, NEDFi Guwahati explained in detail on basic fundamentals which need to be understood by a beginner NGO venturing into microfinance activity. He also presented practical scenario of microfinance by sighting few live examples. Singh also informed the participants to take initiatives for starting microfinance in their respective areas for which NEDFi would extend all the necessary support and guidance in future.
Branch Manager, NEDFi Itanagar branch, Alen Nabam, said that as per NEDFi’s past experience in the field of microfinance, the NGOs of the state needs to enhance their skill and knowledge for proper implementation of microfinance. For this, continuous capacity building effort is required from various stakeholders.
Further, he informed to the participants that if necessary, NEDFi will organize many such programs in future provided the NGOs also respond positively to such initiative. This will enable the NGOs for channelizing the benefits to the grassroots level.

School under threat of massive erosion
Aalo, Oct 19: Erosion by Sipu River has posed serious threat to existence of St. Mary’s School located at Puak Gumin.
The situation has worsened during the flash flood as large chunk of school land all along the riverside has been washed away.
The boundary wall erected by the school authority along the riverside and the residential buildings constructed just inside the boundary wall are in immediate danger.
The problem faced by the school has been brought to the notice of the authority by the School Management Committee and the Puak Gumin Welfare Society. West Siang Deputy Commissioner, Marnya Ete has also personally visited the spot to take stock of the situation.
The entire Puak Gumin area is prone to flood and erosion takes place there every year. One of the oldest colonies of Aalo Township now requires a concrete and permanent flood protection measures with sound budgetary support from the government to prevent erosion.
The school located in the riverside is equipped with huge school buildings and other big assets to cater education needs of the local populace needs Government’s immediate attention to protect it. DIPRO

ITANAGAR, Oct 19: Arunachal Pradesh Child Development Project Officers’ Welfare Association (APCDPOWA) strongly condemned the act of demolition of an Anganwadi (AW) building of Buka Angwadi Centre under Kimin ICDS Project by Assam Forest Department.
Anganwadi centres cater services to its targeted beneficiaries without distinguishing area or region. Demolishing of AW building is an act of putting intentional obstruction to the activities and services being rendered to its beneficiaries and defies the very motto of universalization of ICDS mission, APCDPOWA said in a release.
APCDPOWA appealed to the authorities concerned to initiate action against erring officials and award them punishment accordingly. It also demanded reconstruction of the demolished building by them so as to restore Conducive atmosphere within the mapping zone of said AWC.
It also lamented prolonged boundary disputes between the two sisterly states and urged the government for early solution of the same.

ITANAGAR, Oct 19: Parliamentary Secreatry Lokam Tassar inaugurated the first ever Chera Talo Memorial Volleyball Tournament organized by Chera Welfare Society at Koloriang today.

Through the columns of your esteemed daily, I would like to draw the attention of the commander of the 48 BRTF, Demwe towards the problems being faced by flood ravaged people of Anjaw district.
That sir, as you are well aware that the whole of Anjaw district is cut off from the rest of the world since the beginning of Oct due to road blockade caused by unprecedented rainfall and landslides. The people of this district are facing untold miseries due to acute shortage of essential commodities, life saving drugs followed by disruption of road communication in several places. Therefore, I request the authority for early restoration of the road communication.
Moreover, the BJP is going to organize “Jara Yaad Karo Kurbani’ programme at Walong in November to pay homage to those martyr soldiers who sacrificed their lives at the altar of duty during Chinese aggression in 1962. Therefore, early restoration of road link is highly expected to facilitate participation of large number of people in the programme.

According to a new study, factors like household duties and low self esteem, have prevented women in Bhutan from participating in politics.

Commissioned by the National Commission for Women and Children (NCWC), the report, ‘Women in Politics: Status of Women’s Political Participation in Bhutan’, is based on a survey with 822 women and 714 men in rural and urban areas of Bhutan during June and July 2011.
According to the study, Bhutanese women have fourteen per cent representation in
Parliament and seven per cent at the local government level. The report also finds
that a majority of women (57 per cent) are interested to join politics. They are,
however, held back by constraining factors such as lack of education and training
as well as limited involvement and skills in decision-
According to the study overall 61.7 per cent of those surveyed felt that the burden of being a mother, domestic work and income generation prevented women for participating in public life. Notably 42.7 per cent felt that women have lower expectations of their leadership capability in politics as around 38 per cent saw leadership and politics as a masculine activity.
The study also revealed that about 51 per cent people perceived women as ‘passive
participants’ in decision-
Bhutan has in place an adequate election system with fairness of the electoral process at the local levels being at a commendable level. However, the system needs to have inbuilt mechanisms to motivate women’s participation in local polls.
